Inclinations are traits that determine the voice of pawns and how they behave, react, and speak while serving the Arisen in Dragon's Dogma 2. There are four different Inclinations, each with its own strengths and weaknesses, but when paired with vocations and pawn specializations, these behaviors can be a boon to your party. You'll be able to give your Main Pawn its Inclination when creating them, and you can employ Support Pawns with these traits for a good mix of personalities in your adventuring party. Learn more about Pawn inclinations, including how to change them, with this handy Dragon's Dogma 2 pawns guide.

Calm Pawns

The Calm inclination bestows pawns a personality that prioritizes their survival during each combat encounter. They like their packs tidy and will dispose of items they deem unwanted, such as rotten food. This inclination is useful if you'd like your pawn to try their best to avoid harm and is generally well-suited for ranged damage and defensive pawn vocations.

Kindhearted Pawns

The Kindhearted inclination allows pawns to take on a friendly and loyal personality that favors aiding and supporting their allies during combat. If they can cast healing, curing, and enhancement magicks, they will do so often, especially when a party member is in danger. As such, this inclination pairs well with Mage pawns that use support skills and the Chirurgeon specialization that allows pawns to use Curatives from their pack to cure allies of debilitations.

Simple Pawns

The Simple Inclination grants pawns a friendly and curious personality that likes to explore and gather items while traveling with your party. They are also generous and happy to give you the items they find and inform you of things they discover. When paired with the Logistician specialization, Simple pawns will gather items and craft curatives and implements on their own, which can be handy if you are okay with a bit of randomness regarding which curatives they make.

Straightforward Pawns

The Straightforward Inclination gives pawns a blunt, outspoken, and brash personality. Pawns with this trait have keen eyes for spotting foes and live for combat. In a fight, these brazen pawns attack enemies with all their might, making them reckless and unpredictable in battle but also more daring than the other inclinations.

How to Change Pawn Inclinations in Dragon's Dogma 2

You can change the inclination of your Main Pawn by giving them Rift Incense while in camp at any Campsite. To get Rift Incense, you'll need to purchase it from Neomith for 2,000 RC (Rift Crystals) in the Vernworth Pawn Guild, located in the Merchant Quarter of Vernworth. You'll also need a Camping Kit to use the incense, which can be purchased from Philbert's Sundries in the Merchant Quarter of Vernworth if you've yet to find one.

Once you have Rift Incense and are ready to change your pawn's inclination, head to a Campsite and make camp. While in the camp, approach your Main Pawn, hail them, and then give them the Rift Incense to change their inclination, which will grant them a new inclination and voice.

Where to Find Rift Incense

You can get Rift Incense by purchasing it from Neomith inside the Vernworth Pawn Guild. Neomith can be found at a desk with a blue lamp near the Grand Riftstone of Vermund.

When ready to buy Rift Incense, make your way to the Vernworth Pawn Guild. You can find this guild inside the largest stone building on the southwest end of the Merchant Quarter of Vernworth, which we've circled on the map screenshot above.

Once at the Vernworth Pawn Guild, hail Neomith to see his stock of Rift Incenses. He carries four different Rift Incenses that grant specific inclinations to your pawn: Kindhearted, Calm, Simple, and Straightforward, each costing 2,000 RC. Neomith also sells the Ambivalent Rift Incense, which is 500 RC but grants a random inclination. Purchase any of the Rift Incense you like, and you're all set to head to a Campsite to give it to your Main Pawn.
